DAY 19-20 Good Friday and Black Saturday
These were sacred days when the whole town was quiet. Pila is mostly Catholics so most of them celebrated these days in solemnity. My cousins and I attended the Good Friday procession.
Good Friday is a national holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. (Wikipedia)
The Good Friday procession imitates a funeral rite, by featuring the image of a dead Christ, as well as dressing disciples, saints and the sorrowful Mother, in mourning attire. It ends with the “pahalik” (kissing of the Dead Christ). (Source: newsinfo.inquirer.net)
At the end of the procession, everyone in town was competing with each other to get the flowers on the vehicle of the image. I’ve been one of those people in younger years. Now, I feared of stampede when trapped in between.
